Summer is here so it’s time for our 2016 List of Free/Super Cheap Summer Activities for Kids!

If you are looking for ways to keep the kiddos entertained this summer (without breaking the bank) check out our list of FREE or super cheap things to do with kids!

Reading Programs

American Girl Stores:
Check out the American Girl Reading Program. American Girl stores will have special reading events throughout the summer where you can listen to a story, create a special bookmark, and more.

Barnes & Noble
All kids that read 8 books this summer can score a FREE Book from Barnes and Noble!

Here’s How:

Step 1. Read any 8 books and record them in the Reading Journal (PDF).
Step 2. Bring the completed Reading Journal to your local B&N store. Find a Store.
Step 3. Choose a FREE BOOK from our selection on the Reading Journal list at the store.

Sylvan Learning Centers
Sylvan offers this FREE reading incentive program. In this program, your children read books and then take a simple 10-question comprehension quiz to make sure they understood what they read. They earn points based on how much they remember from reading the book. The points can be traded in for prizes in their Prize Library.

Christian Book Stores
This summer Family Christian Bookstores are offering Free Summer Reading Program.

To earn a Free $10 Savings Pass, have your child read 6 Christian books and complete a book report for each title. Bring all 6 book reports to a Family Christian store to get a $10 Savings Pass. This Savings Pass can be used on any purchase of $10 or more. Valid for children 12 and under!

Chuck E. Cheese
Your children can earn 10 FREE tokens every time the 2-week reading chart is filled out.  Just fill out the form and bring it in to claim your free tokens.

H-E-Buddy Grocery Stores
Your kids will receive a package of cool prizes after they read 10 books. You do not need to live near a H-E-B grocery store to take advantage of this.  Just fill out the form and mail it in. The package arrives in 3-4 weeks.

Local Library
Check your local library.  Almost all libraries do a story time for preschool age children every week throughout the year and do a special summer program that includes school aged children.  (ie: Our local one has special guests and does a reading program where kids can earn prizes). Save money using your local library.

Pizza Hut Book-It Program
Kids can earn FREE personal pan pizzas for reading books! Homeschoolers can enroll as well.

Pottery Barn Kids
Free gift for kids that attend 5 storytimes.

Scholastic Summer Challenge 
Offers a chance for kids to log their reading times into their system to compete for the World Record!

Showcase Theatre Bookworm Wednesdays
Kids earn free admission to a movie in July just by reading and completing a short book report.

2016 List of Free Summer Activities for KidsKids Skate Free
Looking for something to do with the kids this summer? Join the Kids Skate Free Program and your kiddos will get free skating passes every week for an entire year!

Skate rentals are not included ($3 normally) and the age requirements and available times vary by location. Make sure to enter your zip code to find a location near you. Click on the rink name and you will see the restrictions for that location. Normally adults can get in free if the kids are skating. If your kiddos have their own skates – this awesome fun time can be totally free! Learn how to save even MORE with this program HERE!

Kids Bowl Free
Sign up for the Kids Bowl Free program and your kiddos will each get 2 free games everyday this spring and summer.  Shoe rentals are not included ($4 each for us) and the age requirements and available times vary by location.

Regal Cinemas
Moviegoers of all ages can climb aboard the Summer Movie Express to enjoy a great selection of films. During this 9-week festival, participating Regal Cinemas, United Artists and Edwards Theatres will offer selected G or PG rated movies for only a dollar on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10:00.

Cinemark Theaters
For 10 weeks this summer Cinemark Theaters will be showing a different kids movie.  All 10 movies can be purchased in advance for $5.00, or can be purchased separately at the box office for $1.00 per show.  $5 Series punch cards are limited and are now available only at the theater box office while supplies last.

AMF Bowling Centers
The Free Bowling Offer from AMF is back again this summer!

Simply register your kids into the AMF Summer Games Program program and they can bowl three games per day, every day, all summer long!

Microsoft Stores are offering Free Summer Camp Classes for Kids!

Registration is open for free weekly in-store camps. Camps are broken up into two age groups for Jr. Designers (recommended for ages 8-10) and Designers (recommended for ages 11-13), so choose the camp that fits your student’s interest and sign up today.

Free activities throughout the year:

Lowes Build and Grow
Saturdays (usually every other Saturday) 10am.  Register online ahead of time and get there just before 10am so they don’t run out. Children get to build a project and will get googles and an apron their first time and a patch to add to it for subsequent visits as well as a certificate. See current offerings here.

Home Depot Kids Workshop
First Saturday of each month 9am-12pm (get there early.  Includes a free project, apron, and project pin. See current offerings here.

Make It Take It projects.  Some require a purchase and some are free.  For monthly schedule (says whether it’s free or requires a purchase on the schedule)

Lakeshore Learning
Free projects every Saturday from 11am- 3pm.

AC Moore
Free Make and Take projects

Pottery Barn
Free story time every Tuesday 11-11:30am.  Kids receive a Book Club Passport on their first visit and a special gift after their 5th visit. To find a store near you (as well as seeing other kids events that they have)

Bank of America – Free Museum Days
If you have a Bank of America card, you can get one free admission (for the cardholder) to several different museums, zoos, science centers, and gardens all over the country for free the first weekend of each month.

National Parks
Free entrance to National Parks (many of which charge fees usually). GO HERE to see upcoming days.
