No exercise today…again!  BUT I am planning on ramping it up tomorrow!

Yesterday I posted about the Crystal Light and I got a lot of comments it isn’t good for you.  After some research, I realized they were right! I am not a fitness expert and I am not a nutritionist.  I am just a person like you trying to figure all of this out too.  So thats the challenge – take what you eat and what you are doing and research it.  See what is good and what isn’t and report back, maybe we can figure this out together!

OK your turn…how did you do today? Eat right/exercise?

Ugh! Migrane today. . .think it’s the weather (return to high humidity and probably a lack of sleep). Didn’t eat too much as a result and as of right now, haven’t exercised (took a short walk with the kids today). . . would like to stop drinking diet pop for the same reason as the Crystal Light – the fake sugar sweetners!

I try to pay close attention to what I eat. So many things that are diet or light are filled with chemicals. I rather have a small serving of good old fashion real ingredience (including egad! sugar) and move on!

      absolutely agree

Went to the park for a few hours. Though I didn’t exercise much I probably sweated off some weight, lol. I did go to the gym even though I wasn’t totally enthusiastic. I’m glad I went though. I made myself run a little longer on the treadmill and I did the elliptical. I havent done too bad eating today either so I feel pretty decent.

Well, that is definitely something I do. It started w/ me reading a book by Dr. Sears (nutritional defiency disorder) as an attempt to naturally help my son w/ severe Attention Deficit Disorder. It absolutely opened my eyes to all the chemicals and preservatives and artificial ingredients in our foods and how it affects us profoundly and especially children whose blood brain barrier is not fully formed until 10 so these chemicals and neurotoxins (such as aspartame and MSG which is in tons of processed foods) are completely absorbed in their brains.

getting rid of canola, corn, vegetable oil and using coconut oil, no trans fats (partially hydrogenated oils), no nitrites or nitrates….

It would be overwhelming to list all these things I discovered and changed in our household, but this site: http://www.mariahealth.blogspot.com is the BEST at putting it into laymen terms.

By the way, just from making more meals from scratch and eating the full fat dairy (not diet foods) and not even trying my husband has lot 10-12 lbs over the past 2 mo.

looked at the website you linked to and I love it! Great resource and a great motivator to keep me on my path for more whole foods and home cooking! I love all the alternative recipes she gives to commonly eaten processed foods that are terrible for you. That is just what i’ve been looking for! thank you for sharing her blog

Its that time…darn it! All I can think about it chocolate. I ate fresh blueberries so I wouldn’t eat my chocolate cookies ): I make sure that I have fresh produce in the house at all times and I can and freeze a lot from the garden so it lasts for a while.

  6. egregg on June 20, 2011 at 10:46 pm

Did my 45 minute cardio class tonight! Ate pretty great too! Oatmeal and blueberries for breakfast, don’t remember what was for lunch(isn’t that sad,) salmon and broc for dinner! Lots of fruits and veggies throughout the day!

I have been slowly researching different foods we eat and have been slowly introducing more whole foods into my diet. I stay away from artificial sweeteners and MSG completely. The msg is hard because its in everythingit seems! Ideally I want to make as much at home as I can and stay away from as many processed foods as i can. I made homemade bread today and later this week i want to attempt homemade yogurt for the first time

    • christy on June 21, 2011 at 7:42 am

isn’t it crazy how MSG is in So many things? When I first read about keeping your kids away from MSG, I thought “no problem, that is just in chinese food”, but shockingly it is in tons of foods (mostly processed) and disguised under different names. http://www.moms-inc.com/MSG.htm

I agree that if you can make your own or stay away from the processed foods you will be so much better off. It was a huge undertaking for me as my family was VERY resistant, however now they read labels (yes even my 9 yo son) and my husband who was the biggest scoffer. I probably wouldn’t have been so passionate if it was just me and my husband, but when I think of my children and their quality of life it gives me all the motivation I need.

      • egregg on June 21, 2011 at 12:51 pm

It really is in soo many things. I’m motivated to do the changes for my kids too. And since they are only 2 and a half and 1 they don’t complain about it. My husband won’t either. He’ll eat whatever I serve. But I’m taking it very slow so I don’t back track.

        • christy on June 21, 2011 at 2:12 pm

I so wish I would have started when my kids were that young. Believe me it is very difficult when they are school aged. Mainly my pre-teen daughter who is fine with whatever I make but is so self-concious whenever someone offers her something that is not healthy. My son doesn’t care he just says no. But if you start yound it just becomes engrained in them. But yeah, start slow and try not to get overwhelmed :)

I didn’t get up early as planned to go walking,,, but planning on it tomorrow!

  8. Millie on June 20, 2011 at 11:03 pm

Today was very hectic but all I had to drink was water. I had a salad in the morning and a gelato from Rita’s ice in the afternoon. That’s it!! I got all my exercise in too today even my Pilates. It wasn’t that bad having only water and I’m planning on doing it again tomorrow.

  9. Jean Mitchell on June 21, 2011 at 12:26 am

I ate well and healthy today. A large salad for dinner. I did drink some cranberry juice but it was bitter not sweet, good for the bladder. I walked a long distance on the trails at the park and I did 75 sit-ups today. I will try to keep up the pace tomorrow.

If you want to eat well you need to eat foods that come directly from live sources,i.e., plants, animals. Stay away from processed foods of any kind, and eat all your colors everyday. Low-fat and no-fat foods are not good for you. Stick to full-fat versions and eat smaller amounts of them You will be more satisfied and your food will taste better.

Stay away from margarine- it is not a food!

    • christy on June 21, 2011 at 2:07 pm

Yes, that is so true. And yes, it is counter-intuiative to what we learned about low-fat etc, but actually the full fat is better for you. I also agree about the margarine. I used to buy it for my daughter that has a dairy allergy (smart balance) and recently found out how horrible it is for you. I switched to real butter for everyone but her and I use coconut oil for her or just skip it altogether.

Ate much better today and went for a 2 mile walk. Only gained 1 pound with that awful weekend.

  12. CeCe on June 21, 2011 at 11:51 am

My kids are resistant to new foods so I am trying an experiment. I make them put it in there mouth and count to 10 slowly. then they can eat it or spit it out.(only at home) Im hoping after a while they will get used to the taste and like it. We are all working on drinking more water. It is nice when the whole family is helping each other. We did a nice family walk and played at the playground. I had a grilled chicken sandwich for lunch instead of ordering the cheeseburger and had fruit instead of fries.

Did bootcamp at 6am! I really like exercising in the morning and having a drill seargeant. Wish I could find classes every morning!

  14. rae on June 21, 2011 at 11:33 pm

  15. Snoogums on June 22, 2011 at 7:07 am

Today is the day I’m setting up a shelf just above the treadmill and bicycle so I could watch movies on my laptop while I do slow-paced walk or easy cycle, I could get an hour and half worth while I enjoy a movie. I’m a movie maniac, it’s a motivation and a start.
