My son is now 5 and my old justification of “it’s just baby weight” doesn’t cut it any more.  I have 30 days until we go to the beach (yes a bathing suit!)  so I have decided to make that my goal…back in shape in 30 days.  I won’t lose all of the weight, but I will atleast look better in a bathing suit….LOL!

To make this fun I decided to entice you guys to do it with me and put up a little “incentive”.  Every person who posts a comment about their status everyday this month will receive a $5 Amazon gift card.  I know it isn’t much but this is just an “incentive” to keep you going!

Each night I will post my status, simply post a comment with yours (what you ate, exercise, etc) – that is it!  Hopefully this will help us all stay accountable and keep us on target!

Click the “Read More” for the rest of the story!

The Challenge:

This little challenge will run until June 28th, 2011.  Winners will be announced on June 29th, 2011.

My hope is that everyone will post an update of what they did that day.  What you ate, how much you excercised, etc.  There is no set rules of what you need to do, only to track it.  By having to write each day what you do, makes you want to do something to write about.  Besides you will rethink that treat if you have to write it down….well at least I will!  Days off are fine, everyone needs a break.  You can not comment 5 days and still count for the $5 Amazon gift card.  This is for more fun, the gift card is only an incentive.

It’s summer time.  Time to get outside and have some fun.  Use this as a reason to go play with the kids, take a walk, go hiking, so canoeing.  Find things to do – it’s all about having fun and getting in shape!

My Story:

I have never been what you would call the skinny girl, but I am also not extremely overweight.  More than anything I want to get back in shape.  I spend WAY too much time at a laptop and it takes a toll on your body.

Right before I had my son I was in the best shape of my life (age 32).  I have never been a big person on working out (not effectively anyways) but somehow for me it finally clicked how to get in shape and now I seem to have forgotten everything I had learned.  I didn’t have a trainer or a gym membership.  I simply started running everyday and eating less/ more healthy foods.

The problem I have, as I am sure many of you do to,  no time – no energy.  But as they always say “you have to MAKE time” and once you get going the energy usually comes along with it.  That is what I plan to do, devote atleast 30 minutes – 1 hour each day for exercising.  I know if I can get back in shape, I can keep it so its booty camp time for me.  Finding an hour each day is going to be tough, but I feel like if I can do this for one month I can drop into maintenance mode and 30 minutes will suffice after that.

I understand many have more to lose than I and will have more of a challenge finding the time.  I am hoping my doing this will get others moving in the right direction as well.  Even if you can’t devote that much time, try to strive for 20 minutes.  It’s all about getting on the right path and finding what works for you!

Long story short when got in shape before it was because I ran/jogged/walked alot (and didn’t have a kid).  Before my dog would go with me but she is now 13 and simply can’t do it anymore and I have felt guilty going without her because she was my running mate.

I finally figured out how I was going to go running last week.  My son rides his bike and I jog along….keeping up with him is a challenge in itself!   Besides we always pick her up on the last lap and take her for a walk which she loves.   If you have small kids, put them in the stroller and go for a long walk instead of running!

Honestly another problem I have is motivation.  I had one of the most spectacular places to run – Davis Island, FL and Bayshore Dr.  Now I live in a suburb – not NEARLY as pretty.  Back then I wanted to go running, here not so much.  I found a way to bypass that too.  Last time my son and I played “I spy” so I am hoping to find games we can play or if he isn’t going, just plug in my MP3 player and “get lost” for a little while.  I also plan to find nature walks around us we can explore!

For me this is all about getting outside and moving!

My goals:

Put on fitness clothes every morning.  I work at home so instead of lounge clothes or jeans & t shirt (as usual) I plan to get up and get dressed in fitness clothes everyday.  This seems to help motivate me and makes it easier if I get a itch to work out.

Make Sunday “Prep Day”.  I plan to spend one hour prepping healthy snacks (fruits and veggies) and grilling chicken or other lean meats to keep on hand.  I find eating healthier is easier if you don’t have to spend time cooking every day.  Having items ready makes it a lot easier!

Wear my freakin ShapeUps.  I actually have a practically new pair that I haven’t really worn (I know its sickening).  Now is the time to use them.  Besides I wore them the other day running and didn’t get shin splints!  If you don’t have a pair, put tennis shoes on everyday, anything to make you feel motivated!

Stop feeling guilty.  This is a big one for me.  I actually feel guilty for taking time for myself because I have a family and a blog to take care of it.  I have to learn they will both survive without me for a little time each day.

Just do it.  Big part of my plan is to actually get off my tush and just do it.  I plan to run three times a week for now and hopefully get it up to four or five.

Get those weights out.  I have a Kettlebell so I plan to use it (in house) two days a week – 20 minutes.   I also found keeping weights around made it easier to use them.  I actually would watch TV and play with a little dumbell or stretchy band thing.

Get my Wii out.  I am going to pull out that balance board and use it.  I feel having alternative methods for working out around makes it easier.  Every little bit helps!

Get back to Pilates.  Stretching and connecting to your muscles really helps speed it up the training process.  I found before just relaxing and stretching for a few minutes each day really helps keep you limber and in tune.

Only weigh myself once.  For me I am pretty muscular so I gain weight before I lose it.  I plan to NOT weigh myself but once before and once at the end of the month.  Hopefully not seeing it will keep me motivated!

As you can see I have lots of “stuff” to work out with.  I also hope we can explore working out WITHOUT stuff.  If you know any creative ways, share them!

Now it’s your turn.  You know my story and how I plan to get back in shape now I want to hear yours!  Post your story and your goals and any motivational tips you may have.  Simply post a comment and let’s keep each other motivated!

By the way I am not a licensed at anything having to do with fitness/ nutrition/etc.  This is simply me sharing what I am doing in hopes of getting others motivated.  Please don’t do anything to hurt yourself.  Consult a physician before starting any fitness program.   The max I will pay out for this is $300 in Amazon gift cards.  I reserve the right to cut this short if necessary and the right to determine who is doing this for real and who is “just trying to get the card”.   Only comments on SwagGrabber.com will count.  I can’t track them on Facebook or Twitter.

I am currently unemployed and absolutely no motovation, until I read your story. I AM GOING TO DO THIS… not for the gift cards, not to be skinny ( I weigh 240) BUT to be healthier! Thanks so much for your story, I now feel like I have a responsibility….to post every night……This is AWESOME!!!!! Thank you~~~~~~~

    NOW….as a REWARD…….I have to find a cheap way to take a vacation….any suggestions????????

  2. Rebecca Dula on May 29, 2011 at 9:03 am

I am with you!!! We are headed to vacation in Cape Coral FL on June 21 and I need to shape up. I dont plan on sporting a bikini but it would be nice not to feel fat in my summer clothes. I have a 5 and 8 year old plus a full time job to keep me busy, but I will try to still find the time. I did a Biggest Loser contest at my work last year and lost 20 pounds but I need to lose more. All of your ideas seem great and so simple! I’m on board. I plan to hit Aldi’s this morning to stock up on fruit.

  3. jess on May 29, 2011 at 9:13 am

I too am joining you! Just hope I remember to post every day!! I have a gym membership which is only 1/2 mile up the road….but how often do I use it? only a couple times a week :( yesterday while grocery shopping I bought lots of fresh fruit and chicken, so now i have to eat it!! my sweetie has gotten me hooked on protein shakes and i love fruit smoothies. I am currently on unemployment so I really do have plenty of time on my hands. With it being so hot and me not being a morning person I get really discouraged trying to walk a lot (and i can’t run to save my life)……………………

I say all that to say this….my goals this first week on board with ya’ll………..Gym: 3 times minimum; At-Home “Gym”: 2 times minimum; Incorporate a protein shake and/or fruit smoothie: 1 time/day minimum; began to eat less “junk” & carbs and more fruit/veggie/lean meat: every day.

Not beat myself up when I indulge and know I shouldn’t: every day!

Good Luck and thanks for the inspiration…!!!!

  4. Beth on May 29, 2011 at 9:26 am

I’m in! I’ve been trying to get motivated to be healthier and lose a bit of weight, but it’s just so hard! lol I do something for a week and then give it up… I like the weigh only once idea too! Thanks for being so real Sheri, I love your blog for that reason!

  5. stacey on May 29, 2011 at 9:40 am

I have been trying to find motivation since January and it just comes and goes. I’ve only lost 13lbs since then and really need to lose at least 35 more! I try to stay active but the couch wins more often than not. The bad choices in food tend to win me over more than the good. I love doing triathlons and need to get the training in but am finding it super hard with all this extra weight! Not to mention how bad I look in the spandex! The summer is here and I want to compete but am embarrassed by the weight and how out of shape I have become. I’m going to join you on this venture and hopefully it will be the extra kick in the pants I need to get motivated every day not just here and there! I find it super hard to find time to exercise with my full time job and family but I’ve made it happen before I can do it again and maybe reading others posts will help! Here we go!!! Lets make this happen!!!!

  6. Katie on May 29, 2011 at 9:47 am

I super excited to get started. I just can’t seem to stay consistent in my workouts. So maybe a little motiviation will help.

  7. CandyLand on May 29, 2011 at 10:00 am

I think it is great that you are creating a virtual fitness club! I really appreciate your tips as well! It is very true that making healthy things to have lying around makes it easier to eat better- when it is easier to grab a carrot than to microwave a burrito I know I tend to go for the carrot. I too have started putting on my gym clothes the minute I wake up, it gives me reason to go sweat when I am ready.

I am 23 and I am unemployed and recently graduated. Needless to say I am feeling depressed so I am not very motivated. My 20 year old boyfriend plans to prepose soon. The idea of a wedding and the fact that we will be vacationing with his entire family in late July at the beach motivated me to try to get in shape. I am not as worried about losing weight over all as I am about gaining muscle (I have NONE) and being fit. I started the Insanity work out and it is great. However, I decided to give it up yesterday. I went to put on a pair of shorts and my thighs were too big to fit in the leg holes! I have always had very large legs compared to my body, it was where all of my fat went. The insanity work out does a lot of thigh work and it is causing me to develope large muscle there. I tried with all of my other shorts and none fit. I can only wear my boyfriends basketball shorts :(

But after getting up this morning to check Swaggrabber and seeing this post I have decided, even if it is not Insanity, I should continue to move every day. I just got a puppy and I am sure he would appreciate a little more play time. I hope to continue along with you for the next month! GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!

    • sarah on May 29, 2011 at 2:15 pm

I know how you feel about shorts and big legs!! I played soccer and swam my whole life and even at my thinnest / most in shape I could barely wear jeans!! I didn’t have much fat at all but my legs would rub together because they were so “thick”. I gain muscle really easily, especially in my legs – I could leg press over 150 if I wanted to but try to do less for more reps. I’m not as in shape or lean now as then but I think that you should just try to avoid clothes that dont work for YOUR body. wear capris, dresses, or flowy skirts instead during the summer months. try to avoid the clothes that dont work for your body and make you feel worse about yourself and I bet it will make you happier overall and more motivated.

  8. Amy on May 29, 2011 at 10:14 am

I had been doing very well and lost 12 lbs. Then, life got in the way…or rather I let life get in the way. I gained all 12 back again. This may be just what I need to get started again.

  9. Jennifer C on May 29, 2011 at 10:15 am

Count me in!! I definitely need a kick in the pants! At the beginning of April, I went to the gym everyday for a week until that fizzled out and I stopped going. I had good intentions, but it just didn’t stick :( We are thinking of starting a family in the near future and honestly, I’d like to lose up to 20-25 lbs before then so I can be in my best shape. Good luck! Together, we can do this!!! :)

  10. sandy on May 29, 2011 at 10:20 am

I recently joined a gym just to have acess to a swimming pool. I am not only trying to get in shape, but I have set my goal to compete in a master’s swim tournament by the end of the year. My husband grows all of our vegetables so we already eat well. for me it’s just a matter of training regularly. The good thing is that I work for the school board and have summers offso i don’t have any room for excuses.

I use to be a personal chef specializing in weight loss and special-needs diets, so, if you need any ideas for guiltless snacks and desserts I have some great recipes I can share with you.

    • SwagGrabber Sheri on May 29, 2011 at 10:36 am

Oh that is awesome! Yes, please! I really don’t eat that bad but I am limited as to what I consider “ultra healthy” so I continually eat the same things. I would LOVE some new ideas!

Great goal! Hopefully we will be able to help you achieve it!

  11. SwagGrabber Sheri on May 29, 2011 at 10:42 am

OMG you guys are awesome! I can’t wait to get started, I want to lose about 20 and I know if I work REALLY hard and eat REALLY well I could possibly do it in a month. But I am being realistic and working on dropping 10. I want to do this the RIGHT way. When I really focus I drop weight pretty quick. It took me two years (10 with son & 10 after son) to gain it back last time so I am hoping to keep it off this time.

Right now I am off to go walking now that I got my MP3 player all ready to go. Gotta walk first, I am REALLY out of shape and hope to get back up to jogging. I say running but honestly I am more of a jogger/walker.

I woke up motivated and after reading all of your comments you have got me even more motivated!!!

So get up and go do something today…and tell me about it later!

  12. Stephanie O'Connor on May 29, 2011 at 10:50 am

I love this!! Recently, I have been trying to keep motivated into shedding some lbs and eating healthy and so myself Pat and PJ have been doing it as well. We walk twice a day, morning and evening and have been doing pretty good with our eating healthy. We walk about 3 miles a day and my nearly 4 yr old can keep up better than i can!! So I’m even more motivated to do it so count me in too! I LOVE your blog Sheri. I wish you the best of the luck in reaching your goal! You go girl!

    • SwagGrabber Sheri on May 29, 2011 at 11:08 am

Awesome – great to have some family along too! Hope you guys keep up with us, I am planning on some booty kicking this month :)

  13. Lisa on May 29, 2011 at 11:00 am

Okay guys – I’ve decided to join all of you! Everyone seems so motivated . . . I’m hoping to use this motivation to help me lose 10 lbs this month (joining Weight Watchers too). I decided to set my goal at something realistic so that I am not discouraged on my weight lost journey. I’ve got my fitness clothes on right now and put a workout schedule for abs that I ripped out of a magazine months ago by the tv so I have no excuses when I’m watching tv to just sit there!!

    Good Luck everyone! :)

    • SwagGrabber Sheri on May 29, 2011 at 11:06 am

OMG I love the workout on TV idea!!!! <—off to look through her Shape magazines!

  14. Tamara V on May 29, 2011 at 11:02 am

I’m in! I’m totally with you. I have a 6 year old son and I can’t use the excuse of baby weight anymore either. I lack movitation until now. I love the idea. My plan is to walk/jog on days that are sunny (which so far in Oregon we haven’t had too many sunny days yet) and do Wii or videos when the weather is bad.

  15. Katie on May 29, 2011 at 11:03 am

My cousin is getting married at the end of June and my son is in the wedding so I want to look nice. I am trying to lose some weight and have been going to the gym. However, I really need to work on my eating habits. This will be a great way to see how everyone else is doing and hopefully encourage me as I go.

  16. Jean Mitchell on May 29, 2011 at 11:04 am

This is just what I need to starting exercising again. I have a lot of graduations and graduation parties to go to in the month of June. I need to be holded accountable so I will do some exercise everyday and eat better.

  17. Millie on May 29, 2011 at 11:14 am

This sounds great, let’s get started. Believe it or not I too just started to get really serious again today about getting in shape. I have exactly 2 weeks before I have go to this family function so I’m definitely going to be doing this. The only thing that I know that works wonders is Pilates. It’s the only exercise that I do that gets rid of the belly fat. If I can discipline myself to do the Pilates everyday along with some cardio (walking and dance) I know I can do it. I’ve already lost 50 pounds but I need to tone up and I still need to lose about 20 pounds more. I know that it can be done and I know we will reach our goals. Thanks for started this challenge it will give me the boost of motivation that I need.

  18. Toni on May 29, 2011 at 11:42 am

I’ve already started working-out since we are leaving for Florida very soon, but I’d love to join you! I’ve been doing the stationary bike or walking along with weights almost every day since Good Friday. I’ve also been watching what I eat VERY carefully, and it has helped me lose 5 lbs already!

  19. Jen G. on May 29, 2011 at 11:52 am

I’m in – I need something to get me motivated. I have about 30 lbs to lose. I have already lost 16, but then started to slip and I do nto want to lose all my hard work! I am going to have to travel over the next 2 months, 3 times – so that will make it a challenge. I am going to try to get my husband to do it with me. I walk 3 times a week, but need to get better about doing work outs at home.

Thanks for the motivation. I can’t wait to see how everyone else is doing and get some tips/ideas about eating and exercise.

  20. Tallymomma on May 29, 2011 at 12:33 pm

I am using this method to get me back up to speed on my running. http://fitbie.msn.com/get-fitter/beginners-guide-running-weight-loss

Hopefully by the end of the month I will be right there with ya :)

  21. JoAnn on May 29, 2011 at 12:38 pm

This lines up *perfectly* with my own plans!! I am very large and have A LOT of weight to lose, so I had decided to use this summer to start it! I have fibromyalgia and while I was lucky enough a few months ago to be able to start freelancing from home (which gives me time to coupon and discount shop!) but after shopping, I never have enough energy to make healthy foods. I exercise some, but not as much as I need to, but it’s hard to be motivated when it hurts so much. My husband does most of the cooking, but he’s usually too tired to do anything healthy also.

So now that it’s summer and he’s home (he’s a teacher), we are determined to start working out and eating healthy and then by the time the school year rolls around, we’ll be used to putting out the extra effort to keep losing weight!

Thanks so much for the support!!

  22. Tracy S on May 29, 2011 at 12:39 pm

Thanks for posting this! It’s just what I needed to get started. I have been saying I’m going to start doing something but then I never start. This just motivated me :). I have never been real skinny either and to make matters worse I got Mono a couple years ago and it wouldn’t go away. I ended up gaining 60 lbs in one year!! I work full time and am a single parent so I don’t have a lot of time and am still tired a lot. I tried the Atkins low carb thing for a couple weeks and really had a lot more energy. But I fizzled out. I did quit drinking soda. Yay!! My goals are to start a lower carb diet, eat at least 3 servings of vegies a day and to exercise for 30 min everyday. Thanks again for posting and having the Amazon Gift Card Giveaway!!

  23. virginia on May 29, 2011 at 12:58 pm

I will wish you luck. I’m pregnant and not due until the end of next month, but if you keep up the post, I’ll join you then.

  24. Elizabeth on May 29, 2011 at 1:01 pm

I have been working out a few times a week and been getting stronger BUT I have trouble on the dieting end so I will join you in trying to eat healthier this month so that I can see some more results from all this working out. I usually work out at least 3 times a week with my neighbor doing weights and a few spot trimming exercises. I need to add more cardio to my routine, as well as adding another day or 2 of working out. Good luck on your journey and it will be inspirational to me to read your and your other readers stories. We can do it!

  25. Romie on May 29, 2011 at 1:14 pm

Wow you couldnt have done his at a better time. I just started weight watchers, and was wishing I could be accountable to someone. Your blog/story sounds jus like me,so I am all ready to start with all of you!!

  26. Rachel W. on May 29, 2011 at 1:15 pm

Awesome idea! I am on board too. :) I turn 30 at the end of August (eeekk!!!) and I am determined to lose 25 lbs by then. So far I have been trying slimfast (2 weeks so far) and havent lost much of anything. I have not been exercising so I need to incorporate that too.

  27. Alicia on May 29, 2011 at 1:30 pm

This sounds great! It’s been a year since my son was born and the weight hasn’t left yet. I have some health stuff I won’t go into but since I check your site daily. It will be a good reminder to exercise even if I don’t feel like it.

  28. Mary Cloud on May 29, 2011 at 1:38 pm

I have needed some accountability to help me get started and continue to change my habits. Thank you so much for doing this! I will begin making better choices when eating/snacking and I will either walk on the treadmill, Wii Fit, Wii Walk it out, Wii Your Shape or some of my Kinect games, hopefully a little each day, and doing more each day as I continue. I definitely am the type that needs both outside motivation and accountability, without it I tend to not try for very long. Thanks again and Count Me In!

  29. SimplySara on May 29, 2011 at 1:39 pm

I’m in. I lost about 40 lbs last year but my weight hasn’t budged at all this year (and it would be good for me to lose another 75 at least). I suppose the thing I keep coming back to is that I must not really want it that bad, at least not as much as I want a cookie or to watch episodes of Veronica Mars on Netflix. If I really want it, I should probably start acting like it! I joined Weight Watchers in January. I keep paying for the membership but I’m not losing any weight. So my goal for this month is to finally get my 10lb star by the end of it!

Right now I’m out of town and waiting for my hosts to get around, so I think I will walk around their neighborhood and explore for a while. They can just call me when they are done!

  30. Crystal Maddox on May 29, 2011 at 1:40 pm

Ok I was trying to lose some of my weight I as well had a baby almost a year ago.I got a little sidetracked when I became unemployed so of course I gained more weight so now I weigh 220
that is the most I have ever weighed in my life. Now I look at all these stories and my motivevation is
going strong.I AM GOING TO LOSE THIS WEIGHT!!!!! I also just found a job so that makes it so much
easier.I want to say a big THANK YOU to all of you for your stories that got me motivated.

  31. Becky on May 29, 2011 at 1:46 pm

Check your cable listing for Exercise TV & DVR it (or freebies on your computer at exercisetv.com)- or even Free Exercise TV on demand (awesome!). These are the only way I really work out & never get bored. And they can be done any time of day in the a/c! Also, eat breakfast every day & don’t eat anything after dinner is over.

    • SwagGrabber Sheri on May 29, 2011 at 1:57 pm

You know I was just thinking about looking on Netflix for stuff – didn’t think about regular tv!

  32. christy on May 29, 2011 at 1:55 pm

I love this! I think the accountability helps so much. I started a challenge with my daughter at the beginning of my called 100 miles in May from another website. This was to do anything like biking, running, walking, elliptical, skating etc that you keep track of your miles.

We are down to the last 3 days and I still have 15 more miles to go. My daughter has 9 so I think we have done pretty good.

I’ve had a protein shake this am, oatmeal, frozen banana and a luna bar so far today.

    • SwagGrabber Sheri on May 29, 2011 at 1:56 pm

I love this idea! I may have to make this a challenge one week!

  33. Alison Jury Getz on May 29, 2011 at 2:05 pm

I love the 100 miles idea!! I already exercise quite a bit but my eating habits have gotten awful. We’re going home to see my family and friends July 1st so the timing on this is perfect for me :)
Sheri, I ran a 5K race along Bayshore Dr a couple of weeks ago it really is a beautiful area.

  34. PyroPat on May 29, 2011 at 2:19 pm

Hello to all the SwagCrew! This is a GREAT idea and I’m on board! It will be helping me stay on track with my current fitness goals.

My name is Patrick, you can call me Pyro Pat. I haven’t weighed in under 300lbs since 7th grade. My weight is the result of an abusive childhood I survived and coping with the stresses of abuse with “comfort food”. No, I’m not talking about soul food, I’m talking about food being my “safe-haven” from the physical and emotional abuse I endured allowing me to feel comforted since there was nobody to go to. Food was my best-friend.This abusive lifestyle took place in my life from the age of 3yrs until I was 18yrs old and removed myself from the situation. Unfortunately, I continued to gain weight as food continued to be my comfort zone in life whenever I became stressed.

As I am a pyrotechnician and my career is physically demanding, I began to feel the effect my weight was having on my body the last half of 2010 and I’m only 24 as of this past Friday. I was determined to do something about it.

At the start of 2011, I weighed in at 376.4lbs. Since January 2nd of this year, I began a life-changing JOURNEY. Yes, I call it a journey because a diet and a resolution never lasts. Taking a journey to change your life and the habits that you follow will change if you stay determined and “erase” your old habit with a new, healthier habit.

I currently weigh in at 354.2lbs. That is 22.2lbs that I’ve lost and continue to keep off of my body, and I hope for many more. I also am now sporting 2XL shirts instead of 3-4XL shirts, as well as my belt isn’t on the very last loop. I have 3 to 4 holes that I can surpass.

I’m hoping that this will get me back on track with making myself accountable for my actions on a daily basis. Something that I’ve had an issue and lost track of over the past two months, something that if you are wanting to start your own life-changing journey…you will be sure to face at some point as well. If you stay strong, stay determined, and NEVER lose sight of you can keep plugging along.

Whenever I want to just give-up (because I do have those days), I look at my old shirt that is 4XL and think I am now only a 2XL hopefully one day I will no longer need that “2” in-front of the XL as well.

Thanks Sherri for helping others get motivated!

So over the next 30 days, my goal is to at least lose another 10lbs. It will be hard, but I know it can be done. By October 30th, 2011…the day my fiancee and I will be getting married, It is my goal to be under 300 lbs again, hopefully closer to the 275 point.

I think I’ll join in too! I gain weight way too easily, sad to say, my body just LOVES to hold on to weight. Also, I was on birth control for 8 years and my weight has steadily climbed ever since being on it (breast also got 2 cup sizes larger so I know it’s not just an excuse I was telling myself!) however, the pills also made my heart beat soo fast when working out and I’m always over-heated and just hate the thought of exercising since I sometimes get tired just doing normal day to day things. I’m still young and the thought of being tired at my age is scary! I just stopped the pills last week for the first time in 8 years so I cant use that as my reason anymore and I’m hoping it makes me feel better as well. Another obstacle I face is money – I find it hard to eat healthy because my financial situation is very grim while I’m paying my way through school and living in a very expensive area. sometimes I go the whole day without eating to try to save money. however, sometimes when I DO have food in the house I tend to over eat since I’m not used to having it! I need to start looking for cost effective ways to eat healthy meals and eat small frequent meals. my mindset is just totally messed up. luckily my apartment has a free gym so I’m going to try to start going every other day – hopefully in the morning or at night when it’s not so hot (heat completely takes away my motivation!) I’m also a bridesmaid in a wedding in october, and all the other bridesmaids are twigs (no more than 120 lbs I would say) and I don’t want to look horrible next to them! I need every week this summer to get my weight down!

I have a wedding to go to July 9th and i wanna look as great as I can-I have really slacked off the last few months and let some drama affect my eating choices :( I too am going to join Weight Watchers for that extra kick in the right direction and pledging exercise everyday in June no matter what!!!!! Seeing everyone else get motivated is really going to help me-thanks!!!

I just realized we are having a BBQ tomorrow and the though of alcohol popped up (it happens…LOL). It got me thinking about how many calories were in drinks. I found a few really great articles that really explain it if you are interested. If you do drink on occasion check out the college drinking one, it will floor you how many wasted calories are in drinks!

Before heading out to the cocktail party or happy hour, make sure you have a game plan. Decide in advance the number of cocktails you are going to drink and cut back on calories during the day in anticipation. But eat a light snack before you go so you won’t get tipsy with the first drink and it will be less tempted to dive into the food. Always be aware of your own personal limits. Don’t drink too much, and, of course, don’t drink and drive.

My youngest son is three and I am ready to shed my baby weight. I want to be the mom on the beach splashing in the water, not covered up under a big shirt. We have a family vacation in August and this is just what I need to lose my 20 extra pounds. thanks.

    Hey All Fellow Swaggrabbers!

Congrats on getting motivated to get healthy! I am a runner but am running with injuries (which I know is not good) but I love to run, it’s a quick/fast cardio workout for when one of my kiddos is napping, and am afraid of losing my cardio fitness if I stop/ease up on my running. However, I know I need to cross train to heal and need some motivation to cross train as well as get new orthotics and treat my plantar fasciitis and rest my hamstrings. . . So, I’d like to do some yoga, weight resistance/training and other means of cross training. So, any ideas and further motivating tips as well as healthy snacks and healthy quick meals are appreciated!

    Thanks for doing this Sheri!

Okay, I’m in, too! I’ve been pretty lazy, lately, due to an overextended bout of vertigo. (Really, not fun) I was couch-bound for a few weeks, and kinda depressed, so I was reaching for junk and comfort-foods. Add that to inactivity and I am out of shape!! I’ve just decided that I want to take my health back and be a good example for my daughter. Just this week, I’ve decided to take her for a walk everyday (even if I’m a little crooked) and I’m looking for ways to revamp my diet and get back into healthy-mode. I’m looking forward to joining everyone and reading about everyone’s progress. We’ve been doing some spring cleaning today, so we’ll walk in the evening. Then I think we’ll have a dinner of grilled fish, artichokes, and corn-on the-cob!

  43. kim on May 29, 2011 at 5:31 pm

Now that the weather is warming up (good bye winter!), I like to take walks, absorb some Vitamin D, and just enjoy the extended sunlight. WHen I get the munchies, I like to have a big salad or cut up veggies/fruits to satisfy my crunch cravings. I also like to end my evenings with a cup of green tea and a piece of fruit. Then I would brush my teeth. I also like to exercise first thing in the morning to fire up my metabolism and to get that burst of energy for the rest of the day. :) Keep up the good work everyone!

  44. Tracey on May 29, 2011 at 5:54 pm

I do a good job of going to the gym during the school year. I head straight to the gym after dropping the kids off at school. I don’t do well at all during the summer. So, my goal this summer is to go to the gym at least 3 times a week.

  45. tallymomma on May 29, 2011 at 5:55 pm

Ack! My brother just told me he got engaged this weekend and the wedding is in the fall! Talk about motivation. :)

I’m going to attempt this, but I’m going to have to do things in a different way. I just had surgery two weeks ago and will be having a full hysterectomy sometime in June (I’m a teacher. Gotta do it before my deductible goes back up!). We are going on a family vacation in July (health pending) and I would love to feel good enough to enjoy it. I have weight to lose, but I know trying while I’m recovering from surgery isn’t the best thing. There are some things that I’m going to do to try to lose a few pounds this month.

This first thing I want to do is break out my Zumba game for the xbox. I didn’t feel well enough to do it prior to the first surgery, so I haven’t used it yet. I’m starting to feel a little better and think I could do it. Even if it’s just ten minutes a day, it’s ten minutes more than I’m doing now.

The second thing I was to do is try to give up Diet Coke again. I had done this completely in the fall and I was only drinking water, but something major happened and I started drinking it again. I know it will be a process, but if I can cut down even a little each day it will help. I know that I’ll feel better, too.

I had lost 40 lbs after my divorce and then gained most of if back due to my ex coming back into my life. I would love to get that 40 back off, but I know that it is not going to happen in a month and it’s also not going to happen while I’m recovering from surgery.

I wish everyone good luck. I really think reading everyone’s posts will keeping me motivated. Thanks for the wonderful opportunity to participate with my frugal buddies!

I have been working on losing weight since January. It takes my body a LONG time to realize that I want to lose the weight, but I just hit 10 pounds down! I hope this helps me to stay motivated. I do go to the gym 3-5 days a week, and they have childcare onsite- I don’t feel bad about going b/c they love to go and hang out with the other kids for an hour! My youngest children are 18 months (twins) and I’m really having a hard time determining how much weight I really have to go and how much in “twin skin” — however yucky that sounds…

We are going to the beach the end of July so that gives me 2 months- I hope to lose b/t 5-10 pounds by then…. fingers crossed!

I love this and am in. I have had jullian’s 30 day shred sitting by my tv for two weeks. Everyday I saw I am going to start it but find some reason not too. So I am going to use this as my motivation to start it and keep up with it. I have already been trying to cut down on my portion size for my meals. And starting tomorrow I will start the shred. Today I did walk to the mall by my house to go shopping and finished up my spring cleaning.

Motivation is key the key to your success. Thank you for starting this challenge. Today for my challenge i am going to the track and climbing the bleachers for 20 minutes. Be fit and be strong!

So Sunday I didnt’ do very well …bowl of Rice Krispies with Banana for breakfast. Water & Sweet tea throughout day. small piece of graduation cake, 1 sm moon pie, a bowl of ice cream, pizza for dinner (like at 10pm), ham/turkey/cheese sandwich at lunchtime, and blueberry cobbler. yep, that stinks! I did swim a little bit last night but b/c I dont swim very well/very long @ one time I know it didn’t burn a whole lot.
Ok today–Monday…honey cooked eggs and toast for breakfast (not horrible); I’m getting ready to do some ab work, have a protein shake, cut up some fruit/veggies, grab some water and go hang by the pool today. Salad for dinner I hope. Here’s to Monday!

  53. Lauren on May 30, 2011 at 1:13 pm

I have been trying to lose weight since January. I am actually around 10 lbs. down. My major motivation is my wedding on the 18th of June because the honeymoon is in Hawaii which means swim suit. I have toned up a lot. I walk around 5 miles a day at least 4 times a week.

  54. egregg on May 30, 2011 at 8:35 pm

This has come at the perfect time for me!!! I have lost 40lbs in the last 9 months. I weigh 142lbs now, my goal is 130lbs. I lost the first 20lbs on my own through diet change and increased cardio classes. I then hit a month or 2 plateau and joined a 12 week weighed loss competition at my husbands work to push me through the plateau. Well it worked and I ended up in 3rd place in the competition that ended yestday! Now with only 12 lbs to go I need something to get me through this last plateau I hit about 2 weeks ago. Today I honestly did no form of exercise because I spent yesterday and the day before installing new floors in my entire downstairs and I’m too exhausted. I will start back up again on Tues. I ate terribly this weekend because of celebrating my acomplishments. This is a bad way to start this challenge but a needed break from the last 12 weeks

I looked up day one getting in shape and your blog came up. I am going to St Lucia on the 29th of June and tommorow is day one of me getting my act together. I lost 60 lbs two years ago and have slowly gained it all back. Today I weigh 245 and I plan to drop at least 15 by the 29th. I wish everyone on this blog the best of luck with their goals!

  56. Mandy on May 31, 2011 at 7:36 am

This is a fantastic idea, Sherri! I need to adopt some of your goals. I specifically like the planning for healthy snacks on Sundays. I am a stay-at-home mom to a one year old and two year old, so finding time is definitely an issue. But, it’s not an excuse any longer. I lost 75 pounds after my one year old was born, and I’d like to lose about 20 more. I think – no, I KNOW – I can do it! I am going to start by getting up each morning while everyone is still asleep to get in my exercise, and I also plan to drink more water.

I track my diet on Sparkpeople.com

  58. Christy on May 31, 2011 at 10:51 am

Just now seeing this and loving the idea. I’m a mother of 3, always on the go, and very little time for me. I have not been exercising, but have decided to try to lose weight any way possible. I started out at 192 about 6 weeks ago. My parents are doing the Atkins diet and are doing very well. So, I decided to try – I lost 9lbs in 2 weeks, but couldn’t stand the limit in food. As soon as I came off the diet, I gained 7lbs right back and wasn’t overeating or anything! I knew right then that this was not a good diet for me no matter what I ended up losing in the long run b/c it would just find its way back on. So, I started portion control. I may fill up my plate, but I eat no more than half of what’s on it and the rest is for supper. It’s hard at first, but I have lost that 7lbs I gained back after the Atkins diet and I haven’t missed eating anything. So, I’m 183 now, but feel the need to exercise, but with no motivation. Checking SB this morning from what I missed over the holiday weekend and finding this really pumped me up to start my weightloss full force! Thanks for the motivation! Day 1, 183; goal 150; breakfast – 3pcs bacon, a couple bites of grits mixed with eggs; Lunch – leftover breakfast. Good luck to everyone else – can’t wait to read along the way and find out ending results!

I may be late to the party but I am in! I am motivated to look better on the beach this summer and since we have some friends going with us this year it gives me a bit more motivation to look a little better since there will be people I actually know there looking at me in a bathing suit! ACK usually I am in the “oh these people don’t know me I will never see them again” frame of mind down there:)
