Companies Hiring for 2020 Holiday Season

Some of America’s largest companies are looking for help this holiday season. While some are seasonal, some will turn into full-time permanent positions!

If you’re in need of a job, here are a few companies seeking help:

1-800 Flowers Inc.

1-800 Flowers Inc. announced earlier this month plans on hiring 10,000 seasonal workers to assist with its delivery service. The majority of these roles are being offered throughout Illinois, Ohio and Oregon, with some work-from-home positions available, the company said.

7-Eleven

Convenience store chain 7-Eleven announced Monday it plans on hiring 20,000 new permanent associates throughout the US. The chain has bolstered its staff as it has expanded its delivery service amid the pandemic.

Amazon

Online retailer Amazon announced plans on hiring 100,000 associates in the US and Canada to bolster its staff for the holidays. The positions are permanent and are both part-time and full-time. The positions have a starting wage of $15 an hour, and Amazon is offering a $1,000 “signing bonus” in some locales.

Best Buy

Last year, the job-search website Glassdoor analyzed the millions of reviews that workers wrote about their holiday positions to figure out which company fared the best. Their finding: Best Buy was the top holiday gig, with high marks for its culture, values and career opportunities. Many of their seasonal workers moved into regular full-time employment with the company once the holidays were over. Best Buy offers a minimum starting wage of $15 per hour along with an employee discount.

CVS Health

To prepare for the rising demand the chain expects during the fall and winter flu season, CVS Health is hiring 15,000 full- and part-time workers. While many of these positions are for licensed pharmacy technicians to work in-store, the company also is recruiting for thousands of work-from-home customer service representative positions, with openings in markets such as  Indianapolis, Indiana; Kansas City, Missouri; Knoxville, Tennessee; Mt. Prospect, Illinois; Orlando, Florida; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and  San Antonio, Texas. These positions start at 30 hours per week and offer flexible schedules.

FedEx

The delivery service said last week it plans on hiring 70,000 workers between now and the end of the year. FedEx said that many of these positions will be used to bolster its ground service.

Macy’s

This iconic department store is hiring more than 25,000 part-time and full-time workers to help staff its fulfillment centers for online orders or through Macy’s mobile app this holiday season. Job duties could include picking merchandise, packing and shipping orders, and helping prepare orders for in-store pickup. In addition to flexible hours, these positions offer an employee discount.

Target

Like many other retailers, Target has adapted to shoppers’ preferences during the pandemic. For example, the company plans to double the number of workers at each store who handle curbside pickup, for customers who prefer to get their orders in person without going into the store. Target also is hiring people to work in distribution centers, helping to get merchandise to stores. Like many companies on this list, Target offers a minimum starting wage of $15 per hour and an employee discount. The company also offers its eligible seasonal employees health and wellness benefits.

UPS

Delivery service UPS said that it plans to hire 100,000 seasonal workers this year as the company sees an influx of deliveries between October and January. The positions will be both part-time and full-time.

UPS says that in the past, one-third of its seasonal workforce is hired permanently.

Walmart

This retail giant is expecting its customers to shop online this season for holiday gifts that make sense when most people are spending more time in their homes. For example, Walmart is increasing its inventory of athleisure clothing, outdoor grills, bicycles and exercise equipment, and pet supplies. To help those online orders get out the door, Walmart is hiring more than 20,000 seasonal employees to work in its fulfillment centers across the country. The wages range from $15.75 to $23.75 per hour based on location, position and schedule. Many of these positions could convert to regular employment once the winter holidays have ended.
