Supplies Needed:
- Scrap paper (old magazines, wrapping paper, scrapbook paper, or even junk mail)
- Scissors or a paper cutter
- Glue stick or Mod Podge
- A straw, dowel, or pencil (for shaping)
- Clear tape or clear nail polish (for sealing)
- Elastic string or embroidery floss
- Beads (optional)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Roll the Beads
- Take a strip of paper and place the wider end against a straw, dowel, or pencil.
- Begin rolling tightly around the form, keeping the paper straight.
- Apply a thin layer of glue along the length as you roll to keep it secure.
Cut the Paper into Strips
- Use scissors or a paper cutter to cut scrap paper into long, thin strips.
- For a tapered bead, cut triangles about ¾ inch wide at one end and tapering to a point at the other (about 4-6 inches long).
- For cylindrical beads, cut even rectangular strips.
Seal the Beads
- Once the bead is fully rolled, press down on the end to secure it.
- Coat with Mod Podge, a glue mixture, or clear nail polish for durability.
- Let them dry completely before handling.
Tip: If using Mod Podge, apply 2-3 coats for a glossy, waterproof finish.
String the Beads
- Once dry, carefully remove the beads from the straw or dowel.
- Thread them onto elastic string or embroidery floss to create bracelets.
- Add plastic or wooden beads in between for variety.
- Tie a secure knot to finish the bracelet.
Tip: Use clear nail polish on the knot to prevent it from coming undone.
Extra Fun Ideas
- Make matching sets – Create necklaces, anklets, or even earrings.
- Experiment with patterns – Layer multiple paper strips for unique color effects.
- Use different shapes – Try wide beads, tiny beads, or even square beads for variety.
- Turn it into a gift – These make great handmade gifts for birthdays or Mother’s Day!
This easy and eco-friendly craft is great for all ages and helps repurpose scrap paper into something stylish. Have fun getting creative with different designs and colors!
