Get Ready to Adopt a Letter

Pre-registration is now open for adopters, so you can create and verify your account ahead of time to be ready when letters go live. Beginning November 17th, you’ll be able to browse real letters to Santa and adopt one (or several!) to help make a child’s Christmas wish come true.

What Is USPS Operation Santa?

Each year, the USPS receives thousands of heartfelt letters addressed to Santa. Instead of letting them go unanswered, they created Operation Santa — a program where generous people across the country can “adopt” letters and send gifts directly to those in need.

Once submitted, letters are reviewed and any personal details are removed. Then, they’re uploaded to the online portal where adopters can choose up to 15 letters, shop for the requested gifts, and ship them with help from the USPS. It’s a safe, fun, and meaningful way to make someone’s holiday a little brighter.

And this year, it’s even easier — starting November 17th, you can shop and ship gifts directly through the Operation Santa online catalog with just a click!

If you or your kids want to mail a letter, here’s what to do before December 6th:

  1. Write your letter to Santa.

  2. Place it in an envelope with a First-Class Mail stamp.

  3. Include your complete return address (apartment number, street direction, ZIP Code, etc.).

  4. Mail it to:
    Santa Claus
    123 Elf Road
