Most people see a garden as a hobby, but it is actually a mini-business sitting right outside your back door!

You don’t need a huge garden either, there are a lot more ways to make money off your small garden!

If you’ve been following my gardening posts, you know I’m obsessed with getting plants and seeds for free. If you’re already getting seeds for free and propagating plants, your overhead is $0, meaning everything you sell is pure profit. You just need to find a way to sell yours!

Here’s 15 ways I have come up with to make money from my small garden.

1. Starter Seedlings

These are young plants grown from seed. Focus on high-demand Spring varieties like Better Boy Tomatoes, Jalapeños, Sweet Thai Basil, and Bell Peppers.

These take a while and big box stores sell them at a premium so people are always looking for cheap starter plants!

Price: $2 – $4 per cup.
Where to Sell: Facebook Marketplace, Nextdoor, or a roadside stand.

2. Fresh Herbs

Harvested fresh and tied with twine. Popular picks include Peppermint, Rosemary, Italian Parsley, and Cilantro.

Price: $3 – $5 per bunch.
Where to Sell: Local coffee shops, Nextdoor, or bundled with produce.

3. Extra Produce

Surplus vegetables your family can’t finish. Cucumbers, Zucchini, Pole Beans, and Cherry Tomatoes are the fastest sellers.

Price: $2 – $4 per pound or bag.
Where to Sell: Nextdoor is a gold mine for hyper-local produce sales.

4. Cut Flower Bouquets

Freshly cut stems arranged in jars. Use “cut and come again” flowers like Zinnias, Sunflowers, Marigolds, and Cosmos.

Price: $10 – $15 per bouquet.
Where to Sell: Roadside “Honesty Box” or local community groups.

5. Rooted Cuttings

Propagated starts from established plants. Think Fig tree branches, Elderberry, or Elderberry cuttings that have started showing roots.

Price: $5 – $15 per start.
Where to Sell: Facebook plant swap groups or Etsy.

6. Microgreens

Tiny, nutrient-dense greens grown in shallow trays. Radish, Pea Shoots, Sunflower, and Broccoli microgreens are huge with health foodies.

Price: $15 – $20 per pound.
Where to Sell: Local health-conscious neighbors or small cafes.

7. Gift Baskets (Salsa & Pizza Kits)

Curated meal kits. A Salsa Kit (Tomatoes, Jalapeños, Onions, Cilantro) or a Pizza Kit (Tomato plant, Oregano, Basil) in a small basket.

Price: $20 – $35 per basket.
Where to Sell: Facebook Marketplace (great for teacher appreciation gifts or housewarming gifts).

8. Dried Seasonings

Dehydrated herbs ground into custom blends. Create “Everything Pizza Seasoning,” “Homemade Taco Mix,” or “Herb de Provence.”

Price: $5 – $8 per small jar.
Where to Sell: Etsy or local craft fairs.

9. Tea Samplers

Dried leaves packaged for brewing. Mix Spearmint, Hibiscus, Lemon Balm, and Chamomile for custom herbal teas.

Price: $8 – $12 per set.
Where to Sell: Etsy or as an add-on to your gift baskets.

10. Homemade Pickles & Jams

Canned goods from your harvest. Dill Pickles, Pickled Okra, Pepper Jelly, and Strawberry Jam are crowd favorites.

Price: $6 – $10 per jar.
Where to Sell: Local stands (be sure to check your state’s Cottage Food laws!).

A service for travelers. Offer watering, weeding, and checking for pests like hornworms while neighbors are away.

Price: $15 – $25 per visit.
Where to Sell: Nextdoor or local neighborhood flyers.

Dried and peeled gourds. Sell them as natural exfoliators or eco-friendly dish sponges.

Where to Sell: Etsy or local zero-waste boutiques.

14. Propagated Houseplants

Cuttings from your indoor collection. Pothos, Snake Plants, Spider Plants, and Succulent pups are easy and popular.

Price: $8 – $15 per plant.
Where to Sell: Facebook Marketplace or office buildings.
