Nothing is worse than having to replace a large appliance when you aren’t planning on it. These ways to save on large appliances are going to make that reality a little bit easier on your budget!
A few simple tips and ideas can save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars on upgrades throughout your home.
Ways To Save On Appliances
Replacing or upgrading appliances doesn’t have to wreck your budget. Whether you’re remodeling, moving, or just tired of your old fridge making strange noises, there are ways to score big savings on big-ticket appliances.
Here are 7 hacks every smart shopper should know before buying a new fridge, washer, or stove.
Hack #1: Shop Holiday Sales for 50% Off
The deepest discounts on appliances usually land around Black Friday, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and the Fourth of July. If you can wait, you’ll often see prices slashed by up to 50%. Seriously you can pick up entire kitchen packages super cheap on Black Friday!
Can’t wait? Check outlet stores like Sears Outlet, Lowe’s Outlet, or online clearance tools for same-day pickup deals. We have gotten some great deals at outlet stores!
Hack #2: Stack Store Coupons and Discounts
Don’t ever pay the tag price without trying coupons first. In most cases, you can stack multiple discounts — and then layer in cash back from your credit card or rebate apps to save even more.
- Buy More, Save More: Lowe’s is famous for these promos. If you’re buying more than one appliance, the savings really add up.
- Email Sign-Up Coupons: Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Best Buy often send 10% off coupons just for joining their email lists.
- Military Discount: Lowe’s offers a year-round 10% discount for military families — even on appliances. Officially they say it doesn’t stack with sales, but we stacked it on our last fridge and saved big. (Depends on the sale, but it’s worth asking!)
- In-Store Promos: Always check with customer service. They sometimes have promo codes, special mailers, or social media promotions you won’t see online.
- Rewards Programs: Some stores run loyalty programs or credit card rewards that give you additional discounts or cash back.
💡 Pro Tip: Even with coupons in hand, always ask: “Is this the best you can do?” You’d be surprised how often the answer is yes, we can do better.
Hack #3: Grab Coupons from Moving Kits
Sneaky but true — USPS change-of-address packets often include valuable coupons for Lowe’s and Home Depot. Ask at the post office or see if a moving friend can snag you one.
Sometimes people will even leave these at the post office. Worth watching out for!
Hack #4: Always Negotiate — Appliance Prices Aren’t Final… For Real!
Don’t think for a second that the price you see is the price you have to pay. Big-box stores almost always have wiggle room, especially when it comes to large appliances.
Even clearance or scratch-and-dent items can usually be marked down another 10–40% (sometimes more!) if you just ask.
I’ve personally scored deep discounts this way — all it takes is pointing out a scratch, dent, or box damage and saying, “Can you do better on this?” Nine times out of ten, they will.
Hack #5: Shop Clearance & Scratch-and-Dent Sections
A tiny dent or scratch on the side of a washer could save you hundreds of dollars. Most big-box stores have a scratch-and-dent aisle — and appliances work perfectly fine.
Pair this with Hack #4 (negotiation), and you can double your savings.

Hack #6: Buy Last Year’s Models
Manufacturers roll out new models between October and February. That’s your chance to grab floor models or discontinued versions at clearance prices.
Ask store managers when new inventory is arriving — they’ll often unload displays at a steep discount.
Hack #7: Score Rebates from Utility Companies
Check with your electric or gas provider before you buy. Many offer $50–$200 rebates on Energy Star-rated appliances. You save upfront with the rebate and every month on your bill.
From holiday sales to scratch-and-dent steals, you never have to pay full price for appliances. Remember: the sticker price is just a starting point — use these hacks to shave hundreds off your next big purchase.
