Want a FREE Advent Calendar? Make One at Home!!!

I love that this easy homemade Advent calendar can be customized for any time of year. You can change up the colors, treats, and notes to fit any holiday or celebration, so you can reuse the same idea over and over!

Stuffing Ideas for Your Advent Calendar

What I love about this DIY countdown calendar is how easy it is to tweak for any occasion. You can swap out the colors, paper, or fillers and turn the same project into a year-round tradition. It’s inexpensive, totally customizable, and works for kids or adults.

Here are a few fun ways to switch it up through the seasons:

Valentine’s Day Countdown

Make it sweet and simple!

  • Fill each pocket or envelope with love notes, heart candies, or compliments for your partner or kids.
  • Add date-night ideas (“watch a movie together,” “make dinner at home,” “go for ice cream”).
  • For kids, you can include acts of kindness or mini stickers.
  • Use pink, red, and white paper with heart-shaped cutouts or glitter accents.

Easter Countdown

Perfect for spring fun leading up to Easter Sunday.

  • Use pastel paper or egg-shaped cutouts to match the season.
  • Fill with mini toys, stickers, or Easter candy (like jelly beans or chocolate eggs).
  • Add simple egg hunt clues for a twist on the traditional Easter egg hunt.
  • Include family activities like “plant flowers” or “decorate eggs.”

Halloween Countdown

Turn your countdown calendar into a spooky surprise!

  • Decorate with orange and black paper, googly eyes, or mini spider rings.
  • Fill with Halloween candy, temporary tattoos, or jokes and riddles.
  • Add a daily costume challenge (“wear a silly hat,” “paint your face,” “dress like your pet”).
  • For families, include movie nights like “watch Hocus Pocus” or “carve pumpkins.”

Thanksgiving Countdown

This one’s all about gratitude and giving.

  • Add daily gratitude prompts (“Something I’m thankful for today is…”).
  • Include acts of kindness (“leave a nice note,” “donate a toy,” “help with dinner”).
  • Tuck in recipe cards, fall stickers, or simple crafts.
  • Use warm autumn colors — orange, brown, and gold — and write messages on leaf-shaped cards.

Christmas Countdown

The classic that started it all!

  • Stick with red, green, and gold designs or go neutral with kraft paper and ribbon.
  • Fill with mini ornaments, chocolates, or family activity cards (“make cookies,” “watch Elf,” “wrap presents”).
  • Include daily Bible verses, holiday trivia, or random acts of kindness for a meaningful touch.
  • Add small gifts like lip balm, socks, or hot cocoa packets.

Birthday Countdown

Who says Advent calendars are only for holidays?

  • Use the person’s favorite colors and fill with snacks, tiny gifts, or handwritten messages.
  • Add photo memories or funny quotes about them.
  • For kids, include small toys or birthday challenges (“pick dinner tonight,” “choose a movie”).
  • For adults, mix in self-care ideas (“take a bubble bath,” “sleep in,” “buy yourself coffee”).

Tip: Keep a few blank envelopes on hand so you can easily repurpose the same setup for each holiday — just swap the paper and fillers. It’s a super affordable way to make every season feel special!

How to Make an Advent Calendar

The hardest part with this fun calendar is saving up 14 toilet paper rolls lol. Chances are you have almost everything at home already (or can get at the Dollar Store) so this is a super cheap and fun project!

The best part is you can reuse the same setup — just swap the paper, ribbon, or stickers to match the season. It’s a fun, budget-friendly tradition that works all year long!
