What Are Home Depot Kids Workshops?
On the first Saturday of every month, Home Depot hosts free in-store workshops where kids get to build their own DIY project from start to finish. These events are designed for kids ages 5–12, but younger children can usually participate with help.
Each child gets a workshop kit that typically includes:
- Pre-cut wood pieces
- Instructions
- Stickers or paint
- A special orange apron (first-time attendees)
- A collectible pin for each project completed
Workshops typically run from 9 AM to 12 PM local time, but you’ll want to arrive early—kits are only available while supplies last!
How to Register
Spots can fill up fast, so it’s a good idea to reserve your child’s kit in advance.
- Visit the Home Depot Workshop Registration Page
- Select your local store and find the Kids Workshop event
- Click “Register” and enter your details
If you miss the in-store event, leftover kits are sometimes available at the customer service desk or as DIY Workshop Kits for pickup or delivery. Check with your local store!
Tips for Attending
- Arrive early—kits sometimes run out before noon!
- Dress for mess—paint and glue can get everywhere
- Bring a reusable bag for taking your project home
- Save your apron and pins—some families collect them all year!
Why We Love These Events
These workshops hold a special place in our hearts at SwagGrabber because we’ve all experienced the joy and benefits firsthand with our own kids!
They’re not just fun; they’re a fantastic way to safely introduce little ones to tools and the rewarding world of woodworking.
What truly makes these events stand out is that they’re completely FREE, offering an accessible way for every family to participate. Beyond the cost savings, they teach kids valuable real-life skills like measuring, following instructions, and problem-solving in a hands-on environment.
Plus, every child gets a little keepsake—their completed project, an apron, and a pin—which fosters a wonderful sense of accomplishment. Most importantly, these workshops provide a unique opportunity to spend quality family time together, building memories alongside their projects.
