I don’t know about you but I hate carpet and our house has quite a bit. Cleaning carpets and keeping them looking good can get expensive—especially if you have kids or pets.
Thankfully, there are several simple and affordable ways to refresh your carpets and make them look nearly new again. Many of these tricks are budget-friendly, easy to do, and can help extend the life of your flooring.
Use a Carpet Rake
My dad actually told me about this one. He uses his daily lol!
One of the easiest ways to breathe life back into old carpet is by using a carpet rake. These handy tools are designed to lift and fluff the fibers, instantly improving the carpet’s appearance.
They work especially well in homes with pets, as they’re great at pulling up pet hair embedded deep in the fibers. These are seriously the best way to clean stairs with carpet!
If your vacuum isn’t cutting it, a carpet rake might be your new best friend. You can find carpet rakes on Amazon at great prices too!
Invest in a Carpet Cleaner
I quit hiring companies or renting units years ago and opted to just buy one. $100 now saves you several hundred later!
A quality carpet cleaner can deliver results similar to the pros, and the investment usually pays off after just a couple of uses. With regular care and proper storage, a good machine can last for years too.
There are plenty of affordable options available, and we regularly share the best deals on carpet cleaner deals section.

½ cup baking soda

Combine all ingredients in a two-gallon bucket.

Dip a sponge into the mixture and dab it onto stained or heavily trafficked areas. Let it sit for a few minutes to break down dirt.

Pour the mixture into your carpet cleaner’s tank and use it to clean a small section (about 5 feet by 5 feet) at a time.
-
Once finished, empty and rinse the cleaner. Refill it with clean warm water and go back over the carpet to rinse out any leftover solution.
