Free Hurricane Tracking Apps and Websites
Hurricane season is part of life here in Florida, and being prepared is the best way to stay calm when a storm is heading our way. We are sharing our favorite free resources to help you track the storm, find fuel, and keep your family safe.
Pro-Tip: Download these apps before the outer bands hit. When cell towers get crowded or power goes out, it becomes much harder to download large files. Also, remember to take screenshots of your local evacuation routes and insurance info just in case you lose data!
1. Mike’s Weather Page (Spaghetti Models)
I am a huge fan of Mike. His predictions and data aggregation are usually spot on. Check out the Spaghetti Models website for the most detailed look at where the storm is actually going, or follow his Facebook page for live video updates during the storm.
2. GasBuddy
When everyone starts evacuating, gas becomes scarce. The GasBuddy website and app are lifesavers—they allow users to report which stations have fuel, which are out, and which have power for the pumps. It’s a community-driven tool that saves you from driving around on empty.
3. FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency)

The FEMA Mobile App is your direct line to federal resources. It provides real-time alerts from the National Weather Service, safety tips for different types of disasters, and a tool to help you locate open emergency shelters in your area through their Shelter Finder.
4. American Red Cross

The Red Cross has several essential tools, including their Interactive Shelter Map. Their “Safe and Well” tool allows you to check in so family and friends can see your status even if you can’t make a phone call. You can find all their mobile resources on the Red Cross App Page.
5. The Weather Channel

The Weather Channel App is a staple for a reason. Their website offers live-streaming coverage during major hurricanes and highly detailed radar maps. It’s one of the best for tracking the exact “cone of uncertainty” in real-time.
