I ran out of Rinse Aid so I went hunting for recipes. Surprisingly there are quite a few different ones out there. That’s a good thing because it never fails that the one ingredient you need. you don’t have!
Using this simple recipes can actually save you a ton of money too – these recipes average about $0.22 each. Quite a bit less than buying rinse aid!
First off, don’t use vinegar. It has been found to dissolve gaskets that can ruin dishwashers and cause big problems.
Easy Hydrogen Peroxide Rinse Aid Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
- 10 drops of essential oil (optional)
Directions: Mix and pour into the rinse aid compartment. Use the rest to clean with!
Easy Citric Rinse Aid Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 cups citric acid
- 20 drops citrus essential oil (optional)
Directions: Combine citric acid and essential oils and stir until there are no clumps. Pour into a jar and seal tightly with a lid.
Super Efficient Rinse Aid Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 Tbsp citric acid
- ½ cup white vinegar
- ½ cup rubbing alcohol
- 12 drops lemon essential oil]
- 3 drops blue food coloring (optional)
Directions: Pour all ingredients into container. The citric acid should dissolve easily. If the citric acid doesn’t dissolve entirely, put lid on and shake gently to mix. Food coloring is optional but can be useful to see how much is left in the dishwasher.
Store remaining solution in a dark place out of reach of small children. Be sure to label clearly as even green cleaners can be toxic and harmful. [source]
